Director of Preconstruction

IME is seeking a Director of Preconstruction. This individual will thrive in a leadership role and look for ways to make their mark in a $240B industry. The Director of Preconstruction will report to the VP of Colorado and work at IME’s Headquarters in beautiful Denver, Colorado – one of the most sought-after locations in the U.S. The beautiful mountains, skiing, hiking and adventure are only part of Colorado’s allure. It is also home to many craft breweries, award-winning restaurants, a cultural downtown scene and annual events and festivals.

 

The Director of Preconstruction will oversee and ensure the success of all preconstruction and estimating operations. Provide exemplary leadership to the preconstruction and estimating teams with a focus on promoting the organization’s core values. Ensure that all estimates, schedules, constructability reviews, value engineering efforts, cost report planning, and purchase planning efforts and documents are in alignment with company goals. The position communicates plans and strategizes closely with BIM, Estimating, Service and Business Development teams. Mentor and provide training and development plans to team members, and ensure individuals meet and exceed goals. Your expertise in electrical preconstruction, coupled with your ability to manage and lead a team, will be key to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaboratively develops, leads and executes winning strategy to meet IME regional growth goals.  Ensures scalability of Estimating and Preconstruction  Departments to achieve business growth plans, systems, processes, policies, and team structure.Leads the Preconstruction process by regularly building and maintaining quality client relationships. Engages in client’s procurement process, providing support in budgeting, scheduling, and performance requirements for their project needs.
  • Ensures the quality of preconstruction and estimating services meet Intermountain Electric standards of excellence. Develop and maintain the integrity of the process and standards for preconstruction activities. Regularly attend and participate in design meetings and contribute to the development of scope-of-work documents. Review drawings, specifications and all other construction documents and communicate issues, accuracy of information, and potential risks. Assure that potential risk factors have been evaluated and reviewed with senior management.
  • Develops project specific client management strategy. Manages client expectations and communication based on contract specifications and needs of the Owner.
  • Partners with the Chief Estimator and estimating team regarding bid strategy decisions, responsible for positioning critical aspects of the project, including partnering with vendors and subcontractors. Oversees bid proposal process including bid packages, bid documents, and subcontractor solicitation as well as provides creative client solutions, leading to successful project outcomes. Leads the interview and presentation team strategy and process.
  • Supports the project hand-off between the bid and construction teams to ensure proper execution of construction plans and client expectations. Supports project management team with client relations during the initial phases of project construction, as needed. Support Project Management team as required during construction phase.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 years of experience in a preconstruction or related role. Minimum of 5 years in a leadership role in electrical preconstruction, or equivalent combination of management in estimating and preconstruction.
  • Experience in preconstruction for large commercial electrical projects ranging from $5 to $50MM in value
  • Experience leading a team
  • Ability to consistently and effectively drive results that meet or exceed company goals
  • Strong understanding of electrical construction in a large-scale commercial environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with clients, CGs and suppliers/vendors
  • Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices
  • Excellent communication skills – the ability to articulate a message, be persuasive, and explain complex information to audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, Primavera, Bluebeam and Accubid/Live Count

Working Conditions:

The majority of the time you will work in a typical office environment, the remainder of the time you will be on construction job sites. When on construction job sites you will encounter typical construction conditions including extreme temperatures, noise, dust, mud debris, welding, leading edge, trenching and shoring, sometimes in a confined space.  You may be required to visit multiple locations during any one day.

Salary Range:  140000 – 200000 year
